The Value of Tourism report aims to paint as comprehensive and detailed picture as possible of the economic position of tourism in the South West, drawing together evidence on the volume and value of tourism from a number of sources and presenting it as a coherent whole. This annual face to face survey gathers information on visitors to the South West including: visitor profile, characteristics of their visit, how they booked accommodation, activity participation, opinions on the South West environment, and visitor satisfaction.

This document contains information on the volume and value of tourism trips taken by UK residents to the South West region. It covers: purpose of trip, spend, transport used, length of stay, region of residence, accommodation used, age, social economic group, date of trip and party size.
'South West Facts' data is taken from The United Kingdom Tourism Survey (UKTS), commissioned and funded by Visit Britain.

The International Passenger Survey (IPS) is a sample survey of overseas passengers entering and leaving the UK by air, sea and the Channel Tunnel. It contains data on the number of staying visits, total number of nights and spend at a national, regional and county level.
Interviewing takes place at all major airports, seaports, on Eurostar shuttles and at rail terminals.
