Robin Barker, Manager of South West Awards
Yes – restaurants, pubs, cafes and other food and drink outlets are right at the heart of tourism, but we didn’t want to duplicate with the other excellent award schemes that are already run across the region. Restaurants should enter the Restaurant category in the Taste of the West awards – see www.tasteofthewest.co.uk . Winners from this and other food schemes will then be included in the regional final of the South West Tourism ‘Taste’ category, with winners from this put forward for the national Enjoy England awards. This region has been a leader in this area for several years, with past winners going on to win National ‘Taste’ awards in two successive years – Fifteen Cornwall in 2008 and the Harrow in Little Bedwyn in 2009. Let’s try and do so again this year!

Why is there not a specific category for restaurants? I can see that you can enter via Taste of the West as a business connected with food, but do you not consider that restaurants in themselves are a tourist attraction in their own right? Think Fifteen, Rick Stein, Hix's etc
