For the UK to introduce Daylight Saving for a three year trial period in order to make better use of the daylight hours that the country receives. This would mean moving the clocks two hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) in the Summer (GMT+2) and one hour ahead of GMT in the Winter (GMT+1).
Moving to Daylight Saving means that the UK would have lighter evenings all year round. This would provide considerable environmental, road safety, health and leisure advantages that would significantly outweigh the disbenefits of darker mornings.

It would not only lead to more tourism income, a better quality of life and less energy consumption. It would also lead to an estimated reduction in deaths of 104 and reduction in serious injuries of 450 on the roads each year. See Cambridge Centre for Technology Management for details. It's not a case of like or dislike of a new time policy - it's lives and economic costs that we incur because of the current policy

I really think we should be in line with Europe. In the SE it is light in the summer at 5.30 am when there is no one around - a waste of daylight. Scotland may have darker evenings in the winter but they have much lighter evenings in the summer. Also, there would be a greater saving of electricity in the winter if we were in line with Europe.

good idea! maybe my little ones would sleep till a reasonable time, e.g. 6.30 - 7.00 am if it wasn't so light too!

Daft idea .. in the winter children and workers would go to work in the pitch dark. As it is at the moment and it may be gloomy, but in the winter, kids go to and from school in the light. The sun is directly overhead at noon during GMT and it is ... noon.In the summer the UK gets far longer daylight hours than countries to the south. Hands off please.

I fully support this campaign. It would provide better quality of life and also help to reduce carbon emissions. At the moment it is light at about 06.30 but hardly anyone is up and about. It would also help if we were on the same time scale as our immediate European neighboursPHil Page, Dartmoor Nature Tours

As well as the varous environmental advantages mentioned, our business hours would then be the same as the rest of Western Europe.

No, no, no, don't touch the clocks just move the times that people go to work, i. e. in Saudia Arabia the kids go to school from 7 am to midday to avoid the heat. Do the same in this Country to gain daylight hours.Do you realise the work that is caused to internal systems everytime the clock is altered. Totally unnecessary

It's been tried and scrapped. Leave things alone.

I think this is a brilliant idea! Not only would it bring us in line with most of the continent of Europe, but in the south west it would extend the evenings making for more revenue from tourism.
