Give customers the best start to their trip

First impressions count, and they start even before arrival at your business. That's why South West Tourism has developed 10 tips on giving a better travel experience to visitors. The tips cover travel to and within destinations, and should enable you to help your customers enjoy, rather than survive, their travel.

There is advice on how visitors can beat the queues, save money, enjoy the best views and take advantage of some the region's scenic journeys that are much more than A to B. You can even create your very own personalised journey planner.

Many tips have the added advantage of reducing reliance on the car - which not only improves the impact of visitors but also opens up opportunities for those who don't have access to a car.

Featured in the top tips is soon to be released 2010 Summer Getaway map produced by the Highways Agency in partnership with South West Tourism to help visitors experience a smooth and enjoyable journey down to the region.

Another tip encourages trying out the travel options for yourself. Why not do this while joining in with the "Change Your World" initiative which asks people to pledge a local journey on foot, by bike or public transport. The pledged journey is combined with others to create a total equivalent to the number of times round the world.

Creating better, and more sustainable, travel experiences is an increasing focus for South West Tourism. Although improvements to provision are unlikely in the current financial climate, South West Tourism is meeting transport planners to increase awareness of tourism's distinct needs, and working to improve communication to make more of what already exists.

This is a truly excellent initiative to encourage people to think about reducing the carbon footprint of tourism in a practical and fun way. I particularly like this point: "Many tips have the added advantage of reducing reliance on the car - which not only improves the impact of visitors but also opens up opportunities for those who don't have access to a car." All too often the needs of tourists without access to a car have been forgotten in the past!

Surely the fastest and most relaxing way to get to the South West is to fly?Yet there is no mention of www.airsouthwest.com in the top travel tips!If you want really relaxed and happy guests, then suggest they fly and offer to collect them from the airport.
