Mitch Tonks launches First Great Western Silver Service Train Restaurant Menu

Working with First Great Western, restaurateur Mitch Tonks has launched a new, south west sourced menu on the UK’s only remaining silver service train restaurant.

Mitch has worked hand-in-hand with First Great Western to deliver a menu with a truly West Country origin.

From fillet steak direct from the farms of Somerset to red gurnard harvested from the sea off the Devon coast, all food is cooked on board by highly skilled chefs allowing you to rediscover the pleasure of eating freshly prepared food while the train takes the strain.

Mitch said:  “Living in Devon I am surrounded by some of the best ingredients in the world and I am committed to supporting seasonal food in the South West.  Developing this menu with First Great Western and our West Country suppliers has been great fun and a privilege. We keep on finding more and more top quality producers across Devon, Dorset, Wales and Cornwall – and what better way to eat it, than as you travel through the beautiful countryside from which it was produced.”

And what of the dining? Is it really restaurant quality? Quite simply: yes. Start your meal with a glass of Loire Valley Sancerre Blanc, or Chateau De Ricaud Bordeux, sourced by Sommelier’s Choice – supplier to Mitch’s Seahorse restaurant in Dartmouth – then allow yourself to be spoilt with three courses served by the incredibly friendly and professional crew.

First Great Western Head of Marketing Philip Edgerton said: “First Great Western is committed to supporting the communities we serve. What better way to do that than by helping local farmers and producers and serve up dishes cooked with their own ingredients; prepared and presented with the skill and delicacy that this top of the range produce deserves.”

The Pullman service run by First Great Western is available on two evening trains from London to the West Country and two lunch time trains from the West Country into London, five days a week.

As the only high speed train operator in the UK offering a silver service dining restaurant First Great Western is committed to sourcing ingredients from across its network, in partnership with Mitch.  The wines have been specially selected by the chef to accompany his menu.
