Stunning locations for 2013 events in Cornwall

Cornwall is sure to be a very busy county in 2013 with a wide number of events scheduled to take place throughout the year.

Cornwall is particularly famous for its food and drink festivals which occur throughout the year, and in the past few years it has become particularly well known for being a great destination for food and wine festivals.

Throughout the year there are many gastronomic experiences which take place, and they draw people not just from Cornwall, but from all over the country. These festivals generally have a focus on serving up fantastic local food, something that Cornwall is particularly famous for.

Many of the festivals showcase top chefs in master-classes and cookery demonstrations wowing audiences with signature dishes and simple favourites which can be sampled at restaurants year round. Bask in the festive glow with seasonal celebrations at Padstow and Fowey Christmas Festivals and Mousehole and Angarrack Christmas lights.

Watersports feature highly, drawing on one of the county’s greatest assets – its coastline. With so many opportunities for getting afloat, from Easter onwards, nearly every weekend will see sailing and gig rowing regattas at the many coastal towns and villages the length and breadth of Cornwall.  Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week and Fowey Royal Regatta Week follow on from Cowes Week, continuing the sailing circuit, whilst venues on the North coast host a wealth of surfing and adrenaline sports.

“At a recent National Tourism Conference attended by Visit Britain and Visit England delegates, Cornwall was acknowledged as being top in visitor satisfaction, leading the way in innovative digital marketing and consistently scoring higher than other regions, firmly placing us winner in the Premiere League of destinations.” Comments Malcolm Bell, Head of VisitCornwall at Cornwall Development Company “Quality events play an important role in enhancing the visitor experience and showcase what Cornwall does best.”

Sports specific events include the Human Race Festival of Sport based in Marazion, combining triathlon and its separate disciplines of open water swimming and beach runs alongside beach events and children’s activities, set against the iconic backdrop of St Michael’s Mount. Top cricket returns to Truro for the Cornish Cricket Festival whilst technical sailing comes to Mylor with the World C Class Catamaran Championship. Cornwall’s strong sporting traditions of rugby and cricket guarantee fixtures across the county. For something different experience Polo on the Beach at Watergate Bay with the thunder of hooves on the sand as the surf pounds the beach, and vintage surfing at St Agnes in the World Bellyboarding Championships with wooden surf boards and not a wetsuit in sight! Cornwall is steeped in cultural heritage, evident in the vast range of Cornish festivals celebrating our unique history and people with feast days and festivals such as St Piran’s Day festivities, Golowan Festival featuring Mazey Day and Montol Festival celebrating mid winter traditions.

Cornwall is fast becoming known as the place to be for its late summer live music festivals. From the Eden Sessions in the world’s largest greenhouse, Relentless Boardmasters overlooking the Atlantic Ocean to St Ives September Festival and the Looe Music Festival, set alongside picturesque harbours, there is a festival to tempt all!
