Whatley Manor (01666 822888, www.whatleymanor.com), the luxurious Wiltshire retreat, has released its new Autumn-Winter 2014 events guide, featuring many exciting new events and packages available at the hotel throughout the season. Highlights including a gourmet truffle evening, a La Prairie Spa day and a two-day photography workshop providing an indulgent treat for guests.

La Prairie Skin Caviar ‘Art of Beauty’ Day at Aquarias Spa – 7th October 2013

Discover the art of flawless beauty with luxurious caviar treatments developed by La Prairie, in Whatley Manor’s award-winning spa Aquarias.  This event gives attendees the opportunity to be the first to experience two delicious new caviar treatment products available from La Prairie.

Estelle Nicod, Brand Manager of La Prairie in Switzerland, will start the day with a presentation on the new treatments and their benefits. This will be followed by a two-course meal in the hotel’s brasserie, ‘Le Mazot’ and in the afternoon attendees will receive a 30-minute La Prairie Skin Caviar mini-facial and can take full advantage of the spa facilities including the thermal cabins and the hydrotherapy pool.

The cost of the event is £130 per person; arriving at 10.30am for an 11.00am start, finishing at approximately 5.00pm with a complimentary La Prairie gift on departure.

‘People, Place, Photography’ – a two-day photography workshop with Allan Pollok-Morris, 14th and 15th October 2013

Journalist and photographer, Allan Pollok-Morris is hosting a two-day workshop, suitable for photographers of any level. Practical sessions will be hosted in the hotel’s beautiful grounds. Allan will talk about equipment and different photographic techniques, including digital retouching and processing. There is also the option to receive specific guidance on photography in different light conditions with an early morning session at dawn and another at twilight and sunset. At the end of the workshop, attendees will be able to showcase the material produced throughout and receive expert feedback and advice. Any camera can be used, however attendees must bring a tripod.

For guests staying at Whatley Manor, the two-day workshop costs £249 and participants can take advantage of special event room rates from £240 per room per night. For non-residents, the workshop costs £289 per person. Included in the price are daily refreshments, a Pimm’s reception and three-course set menu in ‘Le Mazot’ on the first day, and a two-course light lunch on the second.

La Truffe et Le Vin Noir – 26th November 2013

Discover the secret to the coveted Black Périgord truffle, with a four-course gourmet meal and presentation. Starting at 6.30pm with a canapé reception, Mathieu Trellu from Truffe Extra France will hold a short presentation in the hotel’s cinema, sharing his expertise on the mysterious black truffles. Dinner is then served in ‘The Dining Room’, where Bertrand Vigouroux from expert wine-makers, George Vigouroux, will showcase a selection of outstanding wines to complement the truffle-inspired menu created by Michelin two-starred head chef, Martin Burge. The event costs £154 per person and includes aperitif & canapé reception, the presentation, four-course set menu with wines, coffee, petit fours and chocolate truffles.

Burn’s Night Celebration with Adelphi and Rannoch Smokery – 21st January 2014

A firm favourite on the hotel’s calendar, celebrate the life and works of Robert Burns at Whatley Manor with the annual Scottish-inspired ‘Burns supper’ created by Martin Burge. Enjoy a canapé reception featuring ingredients from the Rannoch Smokery and a selection of whiskies presented by Adelphi. There will be a short presentation in the cinema room by Richard Barclay of Rannoch Smokery, followed by a delicious four-course set menu with a traditional Haggis course. The evening costs £98 per person and also includes wine, coffee and petit fours. Dress code is black tie or traditional Scottish dress.

Cookery Master classes  on 11th March, 15th July and 25th November 2014

Michelin two-starred chef Martin Burge will host three full day cookery master classes in 2014. Guests will spend the day in the kitchen with Martin and members of his team learning how to prepare a three-course menu, perfect for entertaining friends and family. Martin will demonstrate each dish, share culinary tips and techniques during the day and at the end of the day participants will be able to take home one of the dishes. Classes are social and interactive and kept to a maximum of 14 people.  The one day course costs £175 per person with lunch and refreshments included.

Sunday Jazz on 6th October and 17th November 2013

Enjoy some relaxed Sunday afternoon jazz, courtesy of The Solent City Jazzmen, with traditional New Orleans music of the 1940s. For £39 per person, a three-course menu is served in ‘Le Mazot’ while listening to the live music from 12.00pm until 3.30pm.

Festive Shopping on 25th November

With only a month until Christmas Whatley Manor welcomes in the Christmas season by opening up The Sitting Room with mulled wine and Christmas biscuits for a festive shopping day on Monday 25th November. Pick up a special gift for a loved one or combine a spot of Christmas shopping with lunch or afternoon tea at the hotel.

Christmas Wreath Making Workshop

On Thursday 5th December the hotel’s in-house florist Rachel Wilson will be holding a one day workshop where participants will make their very own Christmas wreath. The one day workshop starts at 10:00 with mulled wine and mince pies on arrival. Rachel will then demonstrate how to create a wreath and following a two-course lunch participants can put all they have learnt into practice. The event costs £70 per person including the workshop, lunch, mulled wine and mince pieces plus all the materials to make the festive wreath.

Sunday Cinema Screenings 2013

Enjoy an intimate screening of the latest blockbusters in Whatley Manor’s private cinema room. On the 10th November ‘The Great Gatsby’ starring Leonardo Di Caprio, Carey Mulligan and Joel Edgerton. On 24th November, ‘Life of Pi’ is screening, starring Suraj Shama and Irrfan Khan followed by ‘Behind the Candelabra’ on 26th January 2014, a true story about the last ten years in the life of pianist Liberace, starring Michael Douglas, Matt Damon, Scott Bakula and Eric Zukerman. The cost is £39 per person and includes a three-course lunch or dinner, film and popcorn.


There are a number of packages available for those looking to escape or spend time together to recharge. The ‘Lazy Days in Autumn’ break starts at £665 for a two-night midweek stay for two people on a bed and breakfast basis. Cost includes one 60-minute hot stone massage, a Jessica Deluxe manicure and a delicious cheese fondue for two on one evening, served in ‘Le Mazot’.

This traditional Swiss Fondue Plausch meal is a great way to share a meal with friends and is also available on selected Tuesdays in Le Mazot from September to April (excluding December) for £29 per person. The Swiss cheese fondue is made with Emmental, Gruyère and Vacherin Fribourg cheese, and is served with homemade pickles, a side salad, a glass of white wine and is followed by a delicious dessert.

The ‘Take a Day Off’ package is a special one night midweek package to relax and rejuvenate, with the opportunity to have tee times arranged at some of the best local golf courses, such as Minchinhampton and Westonbirt. The package costs from £495 per room and includes an indulgent 60-minute spa treatment, and a three-course dinner for two in ‘Le Mazot’, choosing from the à la carte or the Swiss menu.

Alternatively, take advantage of Whatley Manor’s award-winning spa, Aquarias with a two-night midweek ‘Aquarias Spa Indulgence’ package for two people. This ultimate pampering experience includes a 90-minute spa treatment each with a light lunch and refreshment in the spa lounge, plus a spa gift on departure. A two-night midweek stay costs from £860 per couple on a bed and breakfast basis.
